How We Think About Space

Look, we're not gonna feed you some corporate line about revolutionizing architecture or whatever. Truth is, we just design buildings that actually make sense for how people live and work today.

Started back in 2011 when our founder got fed up with seeing the same cookie-cutter designs being pushed out across Toronto. There had to be a better way - something that balanced bold contemporary ideas with actual functionality. Turns out, there was.

We've built our whole approach around getting to know what you actually need - not what some textbook says you should want. Every project starts with conversations, coffee, site visits, and honest talk about budgets and timelines. No smoke and mirrors.

Our team's worked on everything from compact urban homes to sprawling commercial spaces, heritage restorations that would make your head spin, and sustainable builds that don't sacrifice style for eco-credentials. The common thread? We listen first, design second.

Our Work Philosophy
Marcus Dread Quinthale

Marcus Dread Quinthale

Founder & Principal Architect

Meet the Founder

Marcus didn't take the typical path into architecture - and that's probably why our firm doesn't do typical work.

After getting his M.Arch from the University of Toronto in 2009, he spent two years at a big commercial firm downtown. Good experience, sure, but something felt off. Everything was about efficiency metrics and maximizing square footage, not about creating spaces people would actually love spending time in.

So in 2011, he took the leap. Started small with residential renovations and additions around Queen West. Word spread pretty quick when clients realized they were getting designs that reflected their actual lives - not some magazine spread fantasy.

These days, Marcus leads a team of talented designers and architects who share that same philosophy. He's still hands-on with every project, still does site visits in his beat-up work boots, and still believes the best design happens when you throw out the rulebook and start fresh.

Licensed architect in Ontario since 2012. Member of the OAA and RAIC. Featured in Azure Magazine, Canadian Architect, and Toronto Life. But honestly? He's most proud of the clients who become friends and come back for their next project.

"Architecture shouldn't be about impressing other architects. It's about making someone's day better every time they walk through the door."

Planning Consultant

Former city planner who knows Toronto's zoning bylaws inside and out. Greg's saved countless projects from permit nightmares with his knowledge of the system.

How We Actually Work

Every studio says they're collaborative and client-focused. We figured we'd just show you what that looks like for us:

Week One

We meet, probably at your site or over coffee. You talk, we listen. We ask weird questions about how you use spaces and what drives you crazy about current layouts.

Weeks 2-3

Our team sketches concepts - rough stuff, nothing polished yet. We show you options, you tell us what's working and what's not. Usually takes a few rounds.

Month Two

Things get detailed. Floor plans, elevations, material selections. Dev creates 3D renders so you can actually see what we're talking about. More feedback, more refinement.

Months 3-4

Technical drawings, permit applications, contractor coordination. The boring but crucial stuff. Greg handles most of the city bureaucracy.

Construction Phase

We don't disappear once building starts. Regular site visits, contractor meetings, problem-solving when the inevitable surprises pop up. Tom's basically living on-site.

Team at Work

What Makes Us Different

  • We don't charge for initial consultations - you shouldn't pay just to see if we're a good fit.
  • Fixed fees for residential projects under 3000 sq ft - no surprises on the invoice.
  • You get Marcus or a senior architect on your project, not just junior staff.
  • We'll tell you if something's not feasible or not worth the cost - even if it means less work for us.
  • Our office is in a renovated warehouse we designed ourselves - come by and see our work firsthand.

Want to Work Together?

Let's grab coffee and talk about your project - no pressure, no sales pitch.
